“Begin with the end in mind” is Stephen Covey’s advise for people who want to be effective. To begin with the end means to think carefully about what your final product or outcome will look like, whether in a class, job, sport, or life itself.

A good life rarely happens by accident. There’s always a high cost to achieving anything of value. You will be confronted with many opportunities but only able to truly accomplish a few things. God will equip you to accomplish everything he intends for you. But you must choose to do your part.

Therefore, take on nothing without first beginning with the end in mind. If you discern that achieving that end is right and feasible for you, commit to it. Courage is vital to staying the course in life.

Paul’s life is a study in finishing strong. He went from presiding over the killing of Christians to becoming the foremost teacher of faith in Christ. Don’t dwell on whatever mistakes or bad experiences lie in your past. Start with today, close your eyes, and imagine your ending. What does it look like, who’s around you and what are they saying?
