In everything that is of God, there’s freedom and unpredictability anchored by unmoving rules and principles. This is why Christians can be neither rigid or loose. You must call on the discernment and wisdom of the Holy Spirit in each situation. Yet, you know that guidance from God will never veer from the Ten Commandments.
This balance between freedom and foundational principles is at the heart of the Apostle Paul’s check list for encouragers found in 1 Thessalonians 5: 14 – 15 (See NIV study Bible notes).

- Warn the idle
- Encourage the timid
- Help the weak
- Be patient with all
- Resist revenge
- Be joyful
- Pray continually
- Give thanks in everything
- Don’t extinguish the spirit’s fire in people
- Avoid all evil
- Count on God to help in all situations
