Truth convicts people. Truth confronts prejudice, manipulation, hateful words, lies, stealing, immorality. Truth calls people to action. They will either listen or they will reject it and remove the messenger.
Jesus warned his disciples that following his teachings and being a truth teller, would not be easy. In Matthew 10: 34 he says, “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
His message then and now upsets the order of power. It brings light into dark places and demands justice. The sword is both literal and figurative. In Hebrews 4:12, God’s word is called sharper than a double-edged sword, able to penetrate and divide soul and spirit, and judge thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Words have power and they can heal or kill.
Choosing truth will cost more than you ever thought possible. Seeking the truth and God’s path for your life will include tears and strain, many chances to give up because it’s just too hard.
Don’t give up on finding and understanding the truth. Jesus promises in John 8:32 that the truth will set you free. This is always the case, even though it may feel scary or even hurt initially.
